Our
sustainability
pledge
We believe fashion should not only look good but do good. That’s why we are committed to ethical sourcing and responsible production. Our approach is counter to fast fashion, focussing heavily on quality and craftsmanship - creating pieces that never go out of style and that will last a lifetime.
Our sustainability pledge is more than a obligatory statement, it’s a blueprint that guides, instructs and shapes every decision we make as an atelier.
Join us in redefining fashion—because style should never come at the cost of the planet.
Sustainable beginnings.
Because everything we create is extremely limited, from single piece commissions to our short-run Being Frank collection, controlling material usage and therefore dramatically cutting down on any textile waste is intrinsic to the way we’ve always worked. We’re accustomed to working with luxury fabrics economically, never cutting more than we need and always keeping unused fabric for later inspiration. We go to great lengths to ensure that we’re reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible, and that every step we take is a step toward a more sustainable future.
Clothing made to last a lifetime…and another.
In a hurricane of relentless trends that cycle so fast you can hardly keep up, we believe that quality and craftsmanship never go out of style. We are committed to reducing textile waste by making clothing that will last a lifetime and more
With an authentic mix of elegance and adventure at the heart of everything we create, we design classic garments with daring twists that endure seasonal trends. These are the timeless pieces you will come back to every season. Choosing styles designed with longevity sets us apart from the current transience of the fashion industry, and is direct way to counter overproduction and overconsumption.
We are slow fashion.
We pride ourselves on releasing small runs of collections with limited numbers of each style to set the production cycle at a slower pace. We don’t do flash sales or promotions which encourage overconsumption. Collections are released organically. What do we mean by this? Only once we have sold all pieces in the collection will we begin designing the next. In the interim we can adjust our quantities and sizes to suit the needs of our customers, ensuring we don’t produce more than necessary. This slower design cycle allows a certain adaptability, resulting in responsible and intuitive collection releases led by our customers feedback. Unsold pieces take their worthy place in the Amanda Thompson Couture showroom to be used as templates and inspiration for our couture clients’ pieces.
Fabric that always comes back.
One of the reasons our pieces are so limited is because we source over half of our fabrics from luxury European deadstock. These are the leftover rolls that would have ended up in landfill, so we make a conscious effort to give them another life to these gorgeous fabrics and help to reduce textile waste and promote a circular economy.
The rest of our fabrics are sourced from long-established mills in Italy and France that keep sustainability at the core of their production. We always prioritise natural fibers such as silk, wool, cotton and viscose which will biodegrade, but very occasionally select fabrics strengthened with polyester as an intentional choice. For example, for waterproofing, or to enhance the durability of some pieces, which means they are made to last.
Small things that make a big difference.
Packaging and delivery.
When shopping couture, we understand that our pieces cost above and beyond high street prices, and with that comes an expectation that we’ll go premium when packaging our pieces for in store and online sales. This is an area of our business that we’ve paid particular attention to, making sure that every touch point, from our bags, point of sales, to the tissue paper used when packing, is always made responsibly and from recycled stock. We of course manage our customers expectations and explain why we’ve stepped away from the high end wasteful over the top packaging of days gone by. We take our role in making sure every decision made is as ethical and responsible as it can be - always striving to do better. This is a key part of our sustainability pledge.
