Amanda Thompson is a talented designer and maker of women's clothing in London – but her background isn't silk pins and cutting shears, it's dance. She performed around the world with Michael Clark Company and Rambert, before making the leap into couture in 2008.
Her love of choreography continues, though now Amanda finds its form in how textiles can be made to drape and fall. She uses only the most sumptuous of fabrics, and instinct leads her imagination on twice-yearly buying visits to her favourite trusted supplier near the Italian Alps. "I have no predetermined theme," she says. "I design by doing what the fabric wants."
Back in leafy W11, Amanda Thompson Couture is a welcoming atelier where clean lines, bold colour and dashes of spirited print evolve into feminine collections and bespoke pieces that follow a feel for adventure and authenticity.
